Create an SRT file from your video, without retyping a word.
Caption Build transcribes your video on your computer, lets you fix the text and timing, then exports a clean SRT file, ready to import into your video editor or YouTube.
What is an SRT file?
SRT (SubRip) is the most widespread subtitle format. It's a plain text file: each caption has a number, a start and end time, and its text. Nearly every video editor and video platform can read it.
It only contains text and timing, not styling. That's what makes it universal: you apply whatever style you want in your editor afterwards.
Generate an SRT with Caption Build
- Import your video: Whisper transcription runs locally and times every word.
- Proofread: fix misheard words and adjust how captions are split.
- Export the SRT: a standard text file, ready to import.
Where to use your SRT file
The exported file imports into, among others:
- Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, to style captions in your project.
- CapCut, if that's where you edit.
- YouTube, as a caption track viewers can turn on.
SRT or burned-in captions?
SRT is ideal if you finish your edit elsewhere or want captions viewers can toggle. For TikTok, Reels and Shorts, captions burned into the image usually work better: Caption Build does both, from the same transcription.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Transcription and export happen on your computer. Your video never leaves your machine.
Which languages can I generate an SRT in?
French and English at launch. More languages are planned next.
Does the SRT keep my caption style?
No, the SRT format only holds text and timing. To keep the style, export the video with burned-in captions.
Your next SRT, without transcribing by hand.
